The Eagle Way No 6
Seek His Face
The following scriptures in 1 Chronicles 7: 12-15 have impacted my life and many others in an amazing way this year.
“Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. 13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 15 Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.” (2 Chronicles 7:12-15)
Many times God gets our attention in visions and dreams, He talks to us about what He wants us to do and it is so gratifying that He hears our prayers. I had a vision of the Lord earlier in the year and I saw His face in a vision, this changed me in a very deep way as I interacted with the Lord, I experienced His unfathomable and amazing love, a sense of His desires and purpose in a revelatory way. I perceive there were things God was saying to me through these scriptures in 2 Chronicles 7:12-15:
(1) Humble yourself – have an attitude of meekness, grace and love.
(2) Pray to God – in all things be in supplication and thanks giving for His guidance.
(3) Seek God’s Face – continually, be in communion with your God, for His will to be done.
(4) Turn - turn from any sinful behaviour, admit your sins, asking for forgiveness.
(1) Humble yourself
a) No pride or haughtiness: not arrogant or aggressive.
b) Meek – does not suggest weakness but controlled strength.
c) Reflecting, and submissive.
d) A humble apology, modest.
“God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favour to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5)
How can we draw near to God? (James 4:7-10)
a) Humble yourselves before God - yield to His authority and will, commit your life to Him; His control; willingness to follow Him.
b) Resist the Devil – do not allow Satan to entice you.
c) Wash your hands … and purify your hearts (lead a pure life).
d) Let there be deep sorrow and grief for our sins - express deep heartfelt sorrow for what you have done.
e) Bow down before the Lord - He will lift you up. (1 Peter 5:6).
(2) Pray to God
A) Prayer: an act of humble worship in which we seek God with all our heart.
B) Prayer: is an expression of an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father
C) Prayer: is asking God for guidance and waiting for His direction and leading.
D) Prayer: with any confession of sin.
E) Pray the Father: who makes His own love and resources available to us.
F) In prayer: we praise our mighty God in anticipation.
Why Seek His face because it is His command and His promise “Seek My Face” v14 “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face,...... then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
a) Not just seeking of His hand.
b) Not just seeking of His blessings.
c) It is a seeking of Him, His Presence, Him Alone!
Friendship with God was a true privilege for Moses.
"The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend” (Exodus 33:11).
Moses had one more request:
“Please let me see your glorious presence,” he said.19The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, ‘the Lord,’ to you. I will show kindness to anyone I choose, and I will show mercy to anyone I choose.” (Exodus 33:18, 19).
a) God and Moses talked face to face in the Tent of Meeting, just as friends do.
b) Moses found favour - God’s face is favour?
c) God chose Moses, and he relied wholeheartedly on God’s wisdom and direction.
This is not out of reach for us.
“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that heard from My Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:15).
a) Jesus called His disciples friends.
b) By extension, we are all His followers—we are His friends.
“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” (John 14:21)
Your life and ministry can reflect the presence of the Lord.
a) Make a willful change to your properties “seek His face" find the time.
b) God is calling us to draw near to Him a change of priorities.
“And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30).
“One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek. That I may dwell in the house of the LORD, All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4)
“So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:27, 28)
“This is the generation of those whose hearts are turned to you, even to your face, O God of Jacob.” (Selah.) (Psalm 24:6)
a) Be repentant, be aware of our own iniquity.
b) Thoughts/actions not pleasing to God.
“For You have delivered my soul from death, My eyes from tears, And my feet from falling. 9 I will walk before the LORD, In the land of the living.” (Psalm 116:8-9)
It is a Process:
a) God promises to empower that which He first makes holy.
b) Do not hang on to things that He hates, change what He shows you.
c) When we fail - go to Him and ask forgiveness.
God promise us certain things that He will do for us in verses: 14 and 15
(1) then I will hear from heaven;
(2) forgive our sin;
(3) heal our land;
(4) His eyes will be open;
(5) His ears attentive to our prayers.
He will fully forgive us of all unrighteousness, and heal our land. This means all of us and all of those who call upon His name. God’s eyes will be observant and His ears will be attentive to confirm the prayers we have made. God is saying, He will show us, in small ways and in great ways, by signs and wonders that He has heard your prayers.
"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
Let our faith increase as we diligently seek Him
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Know that His ears are not dull to hear our prayers
"Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." (Isaiah 59:1-2).
